Job Summary: The Data Engineer Consultant plays a critical role in the implementation of Enterprise Data Management (EDM) Solutions for EXL, Data Management.

They are responsible for setting development standards and best practices and may be required to assist with requirements gathering/analysis, development, testing, documentation, and deployment tasks.

This is a business‑facing role in which the consultant will work independently and collaboratively with internal and client teams to ensure project success.

The Data Engineer Consultant should have practical experience developing EDM solutions, strong working knowledge of the technologies listed below, and an eagerness/ability to learn and train on new technologies.

You will have the opportunity to engage with clients utilizing all aspects of a Data Management organization including Data Governance, Data Quality, MDM, and Business Intelligence.

You will also be working closely with Cloud, Big Data, Data Modeling, and Project Management consultants.

You must be able to fill different positions in multi‑functional and multi‑shore project teams.

60% Analysis/Development/Testing

  • Evaluate the introduction of new technologies and implement solutions and enterprise data integration strategies.

  • Provide analysis and recommendations for overall data strategies and roadmaps.

  • Partner with Solution Architects to perform source system analysis, identify key data issues, data profiling, and develop normalized and star‑snowflake physical schemas.

  • Help lead engineering teams and guide members in best practices for data movement, data quality, master data management (MDM), data masking, data sub‑setting, and/or data virtualization development.

  • Drive the technical design, installation & configuration, development, optimization, error handling, and support of data management initiatives for customer engagements.

  • Install and configure software in on‑premises and cloud environments.

  • Ensure compliance of the project team to development, naming, and coding standards.

  • Create and implement scheduling strategies for data management processes.

  • Administer and support data management environments and repositories.

  • Work with business partners to review prototypes and develop iterative revisions.

  • Oversee and perform troubleshooting and provide resolutions for reporting issues.

  • Work closely with and assist other consultants, provide leadership, and collaborate with clients to understand and interpret data through stakeholder interviews and by defining, analyzing, and validating data.

  • Develop appropriate tool development guidelines and documentation.

  • Evaluate and test new tools and technologies.

  • Develop and execute test cases/plans using test‑driven development and industry best practices such as Gherkin.

  • Define data pipeline orchestration and automate code deployments or mentor junior team members using Apache Airflow, Control‑M, or Autosys.

  • Perform data management development tasks in areas of data movement, data quality, MDM, business intelligence, etc.

    – DQ, data architecture, etc.

  • Support testing, root cause analysis, bug fixing and deployment activities.

30% Communication/Organization/Documentation/Leadership

  • Collaborate and ensure success with offshore delivery team.

  • Draft detailed documentation (Design Specs, Test Plans, etc.) with a professional appearance.

  • Assist in producing detailed and comprehensive documentation for testing and deployment activities.

  • Deal effectively with all team members and build strong working relationships.

  • Organize tasks and time necessary to complete assigned tasks/deliverables.

  • Coordinate with Project Managers and Leads to drive project planning.

  • Perform feasibility analysis, scoping exercises, and prioritise deliverables.

  • Lead the data engineering aspect of projects for the enterprise, including hands‑on delivery.

  • Lead the software development team during design, build, test, and support phases.

  • Direct and implement data integration processes, including data capture, testing, and validation.

  • Prioritise and organise multiple tasks, providing direction and support to less senior developers.

  • Provide training, mentoring, and support for data integration tools.

  • Provide proactive technical oversight and advice to the integration architect and development team.

  • Assist developers, analysts, and designers in conceptualizing and validating solutions that meet business requirements.

  • Align data architecture plans with strategic business objectives.

  • Utilise an agile‑based approach to implementing data services and solutions.

  • Coordinate and oversee the assignment, delivery, and quality of the data integration project.

  • Ensure the quality, completeness, security, privacy, and integrity of data throughout the data lifecycle.

10% Other duties as assigned or identified

Education & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in a Data Management/Engineer role.

  • 1+ years of consulting experience strongly preferred.

  • Practical experience in at least 3 of the following areas: Data Integration/Movement, Data Quality, Master Data Management, Data Governance, Business and Data Analysis, Data Modeling, Quality Assurance, Project Management, Advanced Analytics.

  • Experience with developing and supporting data management environments utilizing tools such as Tableau, Power BI, TIBCO, MSBI, Informatica, and Databricks.

  • Experience with modern data platforms involving AWS, Azure, GCP, Snowflake, Denodo, etc.; ability to learn MDM platforms.

  • Experience with Informatica MDM, Orchestra EBX, or similar tools is a plus.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

  • Excellent organizational and analytical abilities.

  • Outstanding communication and people skills.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proficient with Snowflake and DBT.

  • Knowledge of data management industry (DW, BI, BD, Cloud, MDM, DG, DQ).

  • Practical development experience with an object‑oriented programming language.

  • Python and Java preferred.

  • Experience with version control frameworks such as Git and Subversion preferred.

  • Highly proficient in SQL and complex SQL statements.

  • Proven experience in operational analysis, data analysis, and problem‑resolution activities.

  • Excels in a fast‑paced, agile environment with strong problem‑solving skills.
